Approval given to proceed with plan for auditorium

By Brad Kellar

Greenville – Just enough Greenville City Council members were on board to proceed with a plan to hire someone to increase the promotion of municipal auditorium.

Municipal Auditorium is inside the Municipal Building, which formally opened in October 1939. The 1,700 seat venue currently plays host to several events.

Local attorney Larry Green Jr., who volunteers with the Threadgill Concert Series, believes the auditorium could mean even more to the City if it is marketed correctly.

His idea was to recruit someone on an annual contractual basis, paid for through the city's hotel occupancy tax fund. The individual would be responsible for helping attract concerts and other performances to the auditorium, in an effort to increase tourism.
