Area cities, sheriff to receive stimulus funding

By Brad Kellar

Hunt County – Police Departments in Greenville, Commerce and the Hunt County Sheriff's Office are all recipients of stimulus money.

The Greenville Police Department will be receiving the bulk of the federal grant although Commerce PD and Hunt County will share in the funds. The Greenville City Council is scheduled Tuesday night to formally accept the funding through the Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grant, and to approve the Commerce Police and Sheriff's Office as sub-award participants.

Greenville will be awarded $102,654 in funds, while two separate payments of $24,728 will go to both Commerce and Hunt County. The City of Greenville applied for funds through the grant program in April, with the other two entities joining in the application. It is unclear at this time where the money will go to specifically.
