Armed and Dangerous Man Apprehended in Tree

Gregory Riccardo Wylie, of Dallas
DCSO

During a traffic stop on Thursday night for speeding on State Highway 24 two miles east of Cooper, Delta County Sheriff’s Deputy Tanner Steward went to arrest Gregory Riccardo Wylie, of Dallas, for outstanding parole violation warrants.

According to the report in an attempt to detain the suspect fled running on foot into a cotton field.

“He was considered armed and dangerous, when his information came back,” said Delta County Sheriff Ricky Smith. “We called for additional units in the manhunt.” Included in the hunt were additional DCSO units, Commerce Police Department, local game warden and Cooper Volunteer Fire Department.

The sheriff said they also contacted Texas Department of Corrections (TDC) in Bonham for help with the use of tracking dogs.

“I want to commend our Delta County Sheriff’s Office staff and all others that assisted in this manhunt. We had a dangerous criminal on the run in our county, our law enforcement officers quickly established a confined perimeter and the suspect was arrested within three hours,” said Sheriff Smith. “I would like to particularly commend the TDC dog team. After releasing the dogs the suspect was found in less than 15 minutes hiding in a cedar tree.”

The suspect was located by the TDC dogs approximately one-quarter mile from where the stop took place. Although authorities originally thought he was from the Dallas area, the suspect had been currently residing in the Lake Creek area of Delta County.
