Arrest made in Greenville church burglary

By Scott Harvey

Greenville – Michael Wayne Monckton, a white male, age 34, is charged with Burglary of a Building.

At approximately 3:30 a.m. Monday, a Greenville Police Officer observed a person walking along Gillespie Street with a credit card in his hand and stopped to ask the individual about the card. The individual showed the officer a Lowe's Commercial credit card issued in the name of Ridgecrest Baptist Church. The man told the officer that he had found the credit card on the street.

Ridgecrest Baptist Church was contacted and a representative stated that the card should have been secured inside the church, located at 6801 Wesley Street. Officers went to the church and discovered a broken window on the side of the building where someone had made entry into the building. Church representatives arrived at the scene and determined that the person who entered the building had forced open a door and that the only property that could be determined missing was the Lowe's credit card.

Monckton was arrested and transferred to the Hunt County Jail where he was arraigned and his bond set at $20,000.

According to information from the Greenville Police Department, Monckton was recently released from a state jail. According to police reports, Monckton has 45 prior offenses in the State of Texas since 1992 and nine prior offenses in the State of Oklahoma since 1997.
