Arts celebration set for Commerce ISD

By Scott Harvey

Commerce – A celebration of visual and performing arts is scheduled for next Thursday, December 16 at the Commerce ISD.

Superintendent Blake Cooper hopes the Winter Arts Festival will become an annual holiday tradition where the choirs, bands, theatre students and artists present their best works to parents and the community.

"We have such great talent in our schools and we also have the staff that can nurture and encourage that talent. We wanted to put forth our best for the community's enjoyment at this wonderful time of year," Cooper said.

While choral, band and theatrical performances begin at 6 p.m. on stage in the CHS cafetorium, visitors can also see art created by elementary, middle school and high school students in the Commons Area west of the CHS library.

Beginning at 5:30 p.m., the Band Boosters will host a chili supper where guests can purchase chili for $3 and drinks for $1.50. The CMS Boosters will have dessert available for $1.

Performances continue through 8:30 p.m.
