"Asphalt scam" returns to region

By Scott Harvey

– Authorities are warning area residents about an expected rise in "asphalt scams".

Unscrupulous drifters often tell residents, older ones in particular, that they have material left over and offer to perform driveway repairs at a greatly reduced price.

They usually ask for payment in advance and the work is usually not done, or done very poorly.

Some Hopkins County residents reportedly fell victim to the same scam around this time last year.

You're advised to call law enforcement if you are suspicious of anyone offering to do repairs on your property.
