WAXAHACHIE - The Greenville Police Department Explorer Post won runner-up out of 125 teams as part of the recent Texas Law Enforcement Explorer Advisors Association competition.

Law enforcement agencies from four states met in Waxahachie on April 29 for the event, which was held at Waxahachie High School and the Ninth Grade Academy. The second place trophy came in the category of “Robbery In Progress.” Explorers competing at the event were Susy Ramirez, Jose Lerma, Eric Arellano, Miguel Ramirez, David Contreras, Frankie Lopez, Carlos Rivas and Bryan Cachon. Lieutenant C. J. Crawford is the local explorer post sponsor.

The explorer program introduces youth to the career of law enforcement allowing them to learn about the roles police officers play in the community and prepares them for a career in law enforcement. Attendance at the competition was made possible by a generous donation from Pete and Nancy Haayen.

According to Greenville Police Chief Dan Busken, “Lt. Crawford deserves our thanks for the dedication she shows to these young men and women.” “My hope is that our Explorers will be our future police officers and that this experience will benefit them and the Greenville Police Department,” Busken said.
