Atmos replacing steel service lines throughout region

By Scott Harvey

– Northeast Texas residents are being advised that Atmos Energy has begun replacing steel service lines in over 400 area cities. New polyethylene lines are more resistant to corrosion.

On average, 500 steel service lines are replaced a week throughout the company's service territory to enhance the safety and reliability of its distribution system.

Personal contact is made if residents are home to let them know when work will begin, and an informational door tag will be left a few days before work begins in the area. The company is using a special by-pass tool wherever possible to minimize inconvenience, but a temporary interruption in gas service may be required in some cases.

Atmos is working closely with city officials to keep them informed of work locations on a weekly basis and will provide them with monthly progress reports.
