Aunt plans vigil Saturday for niece

By Kevin Jefferies

Commerce – The aunt of a Commerce woman who was killed in a hit-and-run accident last year will be holding an all-day vigil Saturday in Commerce in remembrance of her niece. 20-year-old Tyronda Johnson died in November last year after being struck by a truck at the corner of Live Oak and West Neal Streets in Commerce. Her aunt, Charlotte Johnson, will be holding a vigil at the location all day Saturday, on the one year anniversary of the accident.

Johnson expressed frustration in an interview with the Herald Banner, because no one has been arrested in the year since the accident. She said that she has forgiven the person who killed her niece, but that she wishes they would turn themselves in and she is still doing all she can to get justice.

Commerce Police said they are still working on the case and there are some new developments, but nothing new can be announced and no arrests can be made.
