Authorities seize dogs from Hunt County property

By Brad Kellar

Quinlan – The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) of Texas reported recovering 65 neglected dogs and one cat, while also allegedly discovering four dog carcasses and at least a dozen grave sites that may have held multiple animal bodies.

It was at least the second seizure action by the SPCA of Texas in Hunt County during the past year.

A custody hearing has been scheduled for next Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the court of Hunt County Justice of the Peace Hershey Barnett, 112 E. Main Street in Quinlan.

The dogs reportedly did not have access to food or appropriate water, were not receiving appropriate veterinary care and did not have adequate shelter, while some were said to be cruelly confined. Numerous other health and safety problems were noted by the agency on the property.

The SPCA of Texas learned of the animals' situation after receiving an anonymous complaint.
