A Quinlan man, indicted on one count of murder involving the death this past summer of a 2-year-old boy, is also facing charges that he previously injured the murder victim and two other children.

Joe Everett Autry III is scheduled to be arraigned today on the murder charge in connection with the death of Jordan Lumsden, as well as three counts of injury to a child with the intent to cause bodily injury, during a hearing in the 354th District Court.

The injury to a child indictments, which carry the name Joe Everett Autrey III, were issued sealed Dec. 11 by the Hunt County grand jury, along with the murder indictment.

Autry remains in custody at the Hunt County Detention Center, in lieu of $1 million bond on the murder charge and $150,000 bond on the three counts of injury to a child.

The injury to a child indictments allege Autry hit or struck Jordan Lumsden with “hands, fist and/or object unknown to the grand jury” on Feb. 14, 2015. Autrey was alleged to have done the same to one female victim under 14 years of age on May 5 and another female victim under 14 years of age on July 31.

The Hunt County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched on the evening of July 31 to a home on Wright Way Circle in Quinlan, where they discovered Lumsden was unresponsive.

An ambulance with American Medical Response was also dispatched to the residence and paramedics discovered CPR was being administered to the child. Lumsden was then transported to Hunt Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.

The final autopsy results indicated the cause of death was undetermined.

Autry was arrested on the evening of Nov. 5.

The murder charge carried a maximum sentence upon conviction of from five to 99 years to life in prison, while the injury to a child indictments each carry a maximum sentence upon conviction of from two to 10 years in prison.
