Back to School Program to assist CISD students

By Scott Harvey

Commerce – A local program is once again seeking funds to help students of the Commerce Independent School District. Christians Make a Difference is accepting donations for their annual Back to School Program this weekend in Commerce.

The program has assisted students for the past several years by providing gift cards, certificates for haircuts and basic back to school supplies.

According to Christians Make a Difference member Judy Rudolf, the 25-dollar gift cards should go a long way toward the purchase of clothing as part of the district's dress code. The dress code, implemented for middle and high school students last year, is now being enforced for pre-kindergarten through fifth grade students as well.

More than 90% of funds raised by Christians Make a Difference go toward their annual Back to School Program. They are also very active in the Cloth a Child Program each December, which provides clothing for CISD students in need.

Donations to Christians Make a Difference are tax deductible.

Materials will be distributed to CISD students on Saturday Morning, August 9 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Norris Community Center in Commerce, located at 1007 Ross St. Students must be accompanied by a parent who can validate their enrollment in CISD. A form of identification must also be provided.

Checks can to be made out to:
