Texas A&M University-Commerce running back Joe Bergeron has been suspended for an unspecified violation of team policy, according to a report by the Greenville Herald-Banner. A statement from the university's athletics department said the suspension resulted from an off-campus incident.
“We have instituted a suspension from competition and team activities for violation of team and department policy while the university conducts its investigation,” A&M-Commerce head football coach Colby Carthel said. “It is also department policy not to comment further regarding ongoing investigations.”
Bergeron, a senior, was a late-season transfer to A&M-Commerce following his dismissal from the University of Texas football team, also for unspecified violations of team policy. The starting running back for the Lions, Bergeron (6-1, 230) ranks fourth in the Lone Star Conference in rushing with 407 yards through five games. The alumnus of North Mesquite High averages 5.6 yards per carry, second among LSC rushers with at least 10 carries per game, and has scored six touchdowns on the ground. Bergeron has one TD and 168 yards receiving.
