Big Event Saturday in Commerce

Commerce, TX –
On and around the A and M-Commerce campus, The Sigma Chi fraternity will plant trees behind the Children's Learning Center. Kappa Alpha is adding mulch to the children's play area at the Family East apartments. The National Association of colored Women Club is cleaning the fence line by Smith Hall and Commerce Inn and along the creek. Four groups will be at the new home of the Northeast Texas Children's Museum, the Watson Center. The Commerce High football team is painting a fire truck for the museum, Zeta Phi Beta sorority is cleaning, Omega Delta Phi is working in three areas, and the Golden Leos will be making improvements in the Dino Dig area.

Landscaping will be done by the First Year Leadership Class at Authors Park, Bettina Zvanut and the KEEP Club at Commerce Middle School, and the Louise Drake Garden Club on the downtown square. The Beautification Task Force is trimming the crepe myrtles along highway 50. Breakout Entertainment will be assisting the Kiwanis Club with trash pickup. Trash collection will also be done by the Lions Club along highways and at Rosemound Cemetery by Erin Surnson and the A-C Williams Student Council. The First Presbyterian and Episcopal churches are having workdays at their locations. First Baptist Church is painting equipment in City Park and working at the Baptist Student Center. And the Psychology Club has made a monetary donation.

Everyone can participate in Saturday's Big Event by cleaning and sprucing up, taking almost all materials to the County Barn on North Bois D'Arc Street. The barn will NOT accept asphalt roofing materials. And you're invited to enjoy a stew lunch prepared by the Masonic Lodge Saturday from 11 until 1 at City Park.
