After a string of 4 losses, the Commerce Tigers tried to turn their luck around versus the visiting Raiders of Sunnyvale on Friday night, playing without their injured quarterback Sam Wells.
The scoring in the first half of the game began with Sunnyvale posting a field goal early in the first quarter to take a 0-3 lead, but The Tigers answered with a touchdown in the 2nd to go on top 7 to 3. The momentum switched to Sunnyvale's favor for the rest of the half, however, capitalizing on multiple Tiger fumbles with 2 more touchdowns. At halftime, it was Commerce- 7, Sunnyvale- 24.
In the second half, it was Sunnyvale who fumbled on their first few possessions, allowing The Tigers to post a TD with 4:30 left in the 3rd: Commerce- 14, Sunnyvale- 24. Then in the 4th quarter, Commerce got a hand on a Raiders pass, and returned the interception 90 yards for a touchdown, closing the gap to 21-24 with 8 minutes remaining in the game. The Raiders posted another 7 points in short order, and held that lead for the duration of the game. Final score: Commerce- 21 Sunnyvale- 31.
