Commerce – The 4th annual Bill Martin Jr. Symposium at Texas A&M University-Commerce takes place next month. The event was established to honor Bill Martin Jr., a former resident of commerce and writer of children's books. Assistant Professor with the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at A&M-Commerce Dr. Josh Thompson says the event has received considerable attention in years past, and expects another big turnout this year.

This year's keynote speaker is Gloria Houston, who'll be speaking about writing and teaching writing using her text, How Writing Works, and many of her other books. Also taking place are several Breakout Sessions, which features more than three dozen classroom experts discussing topics relating literature to education.

The 4th annual Bill Martin Jr. Symposium takes place Friday, May 2 in the Memorial Student Center. Almost 300 individuals have already pre-registered for the event. You can register at their website, www.tamu-commerce.edu/edci
