Birch to head Reno Police Department

http://www.renotexas.us/

RENO - The Reno City Council has named Paris Crime Information Office Matt Birch as its new police chief.

The Council made the announcement following their Friday meeting. A handful of candidates had been in the running, including Interim Chief Jeff Sugg and Red River County Sheriff Robert Bridges.

Birch has served with the Paris Police Department for 12 years, the first eight as a patrolman before assuming duties as crime information officer in 2007, which includes a major role within Lamar County Crime Stoppers.

He replaces Joey McCarthy, who stepped down in September.  Birch’s first day as Reno Police Chief is January 1.
