Bland ISD receives criticism over knife policy

By Scott Harvey

– Administrators with the Bland ISD in Hunt County are receiving criticism after allowing students to bring knives to school.

WFAA - TV reports a ninth grader in the district brought home two knives he had purchased on campus from a fellow student. Upon review, it appears Bland ISD does not have a policy pertaining to knives. The report finds officials instead adhere to Texas law, which allows students to carry knives under 5.5 inches long.

Officials are instructed to confiscate any knife they see a student selling or flashing. High School Principal Brian Garner says a policy could soon be considered, given the amount of recent incidents
