Blood drive in Cooper Oct. 19

Carter BloodCare
Carter BloodCare will be in Cooper on the morning of Sat. Oct. 19

In Cooper, Chiggerfest Health Fair is hosting a blood drive from 8 a.m.-noon on Sat. Oct. 19 at 221 E. Bonham St. in the Civic Center. For more information or to schedule an appointment time, contact Melissa Millard at (903) 395-2811.

Blood transfusion makes possible surgical procedures, cancer treatments and transplant operations for patients in our community. Cancer patients use more blood products, including platelets, than any other patient group in the Carter BloodCare service area. Platelets have a shelf-life of only five days, making the need for volunteer blood donors constant.

Potential blood donors can volunteer beginning at age 16 with a parent’s consent, and 17-year-olds can give independently. There is no upper age limit for giving. All donors must weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good general health and present a photo ID each time they give. It’s also a good idea to eat a nutritious meal and drink plenty of water before giving blood. For more information about donor eligibility and to make an appointment, call Carter BloodCare at 1-800-366-2834 or visit carterbloodcare.org.
