Bonham man convicted for child abuse

By Kevin Jefferies

Fannin County – A Fannin County jury has given a man 36 years in prison for the beating of a 6 year old boy. Honorio Arezano Baez has been convicted of first degree injury of a child, which Assistant Fannin County Attorney Brad Setterberg described as outright torture, according to The Paris News.

Evidence came to light at trial of the Baez's abuse of his girlfriend's children, ages 3 and 6, who he lived with in Bonham. Setterberg said the man often hit and slapped the boys, eventually resorting to burning them with cigarettes and holding their heads under water. Testimony said he also once tied the 6 year old to a dresser and left him standing there for several hours.

The abuse came to light in May of last year when the oldest boy came to school with welts and hand-shaped bruises on his body. His eardrum had also been ruptured.
