Bonham Police warn of scam

By Kevin Jefferies

Bonham – If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. That's the message Bonham Police are passing on to the public regarding recent home repair scams in the area. Someone will approach homeowners saying they have left over material from a previous job, and can offer a great deal for work, usually involving driveway repairs.

If the work is done, it may not be what was expected and the bill may be a different price than was agreed upon.

Suggestions to avoid becoming victim of such a scam:

Don't have work started without a written agreement, and all the details outlined.

Never pay for any work you did not agree upon, and never pay before the work begins.

If they say they have left over materials, ask for a reference to the previous job, and check it out.

Ask for other references, too.
