Bras for the Cause to Benefit Janice's Closet

Facebook

GREENVILLE - The Thursday evening event from 6 - 8 p.m. in downtown Greenville comes from the Hunt Regional Healthcare Foundation.

Over the last three years, the event has raised roughly $70,000, with $40,000 received in 2011. Janice’s Closet was named in honor of Janice Weldon, who died in 2010 after dedicating her life to volunteering for multiple causes.

The Foundation’s Lisa Hill says Bras for the Cause will help pay for supplies such as wigs and breast prostheses needed by breast cancer patients who might otherwise not be able to afford them.

"The women really appreciate these. It really makes life much simpler for them," Hill said.

While the proceeds benefit a serious issue, Thursday’s event is filled with fun and games, as people vote for their favorite decorated undergarments.

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
