<b>Sole finalist named for Texas A&M University-Commerce President</b>

Commerce –

The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents has named Dr. Dan Jones, Provost of Texas A&M International University (Laredo) as the sole finalist for the position of President at Texas A&M University-Commerce.

Dr. Jones was selected from a pool of 34 candidates and was one of the final groups that the Presidential Search Advisory Committee had put forward to the Chancellor earlier this month.

Dr. Jones, his wife, and their 10 year old daughter will be in Commerce Thursday and Friday to visit with employees and students.

From the A&M-International website, here is Dr. Jones' biography:

Dan R. Jones is Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at Texas A&M International University. Prior to his appointment as Provost and VPAA, Dr. Jones served for several years as the Dean of University College at the University of Houston-Downtown.

Dr. Jones earned his B.J. in Magazine Journalism (with highest honors) and B.A. in English (highest honors) from the University of Texas at Austin. He has an M.A. in English from Rice University, as well as an M.A. in American Studies from the University of Iowa. He received his Ph.D. in American Studies, also from the University of Iowa.

He was a charter member of Phi Kappa Phi at the University of Houston-Downtown, where he was also given the Service Excellence Award and the Student Government Association award for Outstanding Faculty Member.

His professional memberships include the American Studies Association, the Far West Popular Culture Association, the Popular Culture Association, and Phi Beta Kappa.
