Greenville – The Greenville ISD could experience a budget shortfall of approximately $168,000 for its current school year.
Board members met Tuesday night to discuss the issue; an amendment to that budget is set to be approved during a meeting next month. Greenville ISD currently operates on a budget of nearly $33 million.
According to Chief Financial Officer Shelly Tubbs, the shortfall is a result of decreased transportation funding, lower-than-expected investment income and average daily attendance funding.
Little information was given regarding the 2009-2010 budget, except that the district will try to be as thrifty as possible. It was unclear if GISD will need to or plans to raise the tax rate.
