Building projects coming along in Commerce

By Scott Harvey

Commerce – Three construction projects in Commerce are on the path to completion, which will assist both local businesses and A&M-Commerce students.

Officials with Braum's Ice Cream and Dairy Stores expect to be done in middle to late October. The new 5,700 square foot building along Highway 50 will feature a drive thru and the businesses' traditional fresh market and food and dining area. It is being constructed by Confederated Builders, based in Derby, Kansas.

The new drive-thru Subway will sit adjacent to McDonalds on Live Oak Street, and is about one-third bigger than its current facility. Facility owner Bobby Richardson hopes to open by October 1.

The new Sigma Chi fraternity house, located along Lee St., is equipped with 16 bedrooms at around 5,500 square feet. The project could be complete by mid-September, according to Jeremy Connor with Rumcon Construction. Rumcon is the same company that constructed the University Quads located behind the Field House.
