COOPER - Recent rains have done little to help the region fend off increasingly dry conditions, prompting Delta and Fannin County Commissioners Monday to order a burn ban.

That makes eight local counties now under the restriction.

Last week, both Hunt County Judge John Horn and Hopkins County Judge Chris Brown signed emergency orders for the ban.

On Monday, officials in Hopkins County extended the ban for another 90 days.

Update at 2:21 p.m. The Hunt County Commissioners Court also Tuesday morning voted to extend its ban on outdoor burning for an additional 90 days.

The order restricts outdoor burning of items such as trash. Outdoor welding is only allowed if a spotter is present. The ban also does not prohibit activities related to public health such as firefighter training.
