Campbell's appeal fails, 35 year sentence to stand

GREENVILLE - The 2010 murder conviction out of Hunt County against Lanny Dean Campbell has been upheld on appeal.

The ruling came Friday after the Sixth Court of Appeals in Texarkana heard arguments in the case.

Campbell argued that his 2010 conviction and sentencing was in error for the murder of James Michael McKinnis a year earlier. Campbell also argued that he received ineffective assistance from his defense counsel.

His 35 year prison sentence will stand.
