Case in limbo as defendent is held in another state

By Brad Kellar

Hunt County – A major Hunt County drug case is in limbo after the defendant is charged in another state.

A status hearing has been reset for Monday for Abel Torrez, of Arlington, who's pleaded not guilty to possession of between 500 and 2,000 pounds of marijuana.

A trial date has not yet been set, as he is currently being held in Georgia on multiple felony charges, including murder, aggravated assault and illegal detention.

Torrez is accused of driving a trailer containing more than a half ton of marijuana, which was stopped in Hunt County in October 2007.
