Caution again urged as area deals with flooding

Wednesday’s rising floodwaters and the trouble that ensued locally were a clear indication of just how dangerous the situation can become, as one person died and another nearly drowned.

A Sulphur Springs man was killed and a Fannin County woman needed rescued in separate incidents stemming from significant rainfall. The Department of Public Safety says 36-year-old Shannon Bigler was killed when his vehicle hydroplaned along Highway 69 north of Lone Oak. Bigler then lost control of his car, left the roadway and struck a tree.

In Bonham Wednesday, the fire department came to the aid of a woman who got trapped inside her car on CR 2630. The rescue effort did take some time due to the high water.

Flood warnings remained in effect Thursday morning for the South Sulphur River near Cooper affecting Delta and Hopkins counties, the Cowleech Fork of the Sabine River at Greenville affecting Hunt County and the South Fork Sabine River near Quinlan affecting Hunt and Rockwall counties.
