Celebrations aplenty this weekend for the 4th

By Scott Harvey

The City of Commerce celebrates its eight annual July 4 celebration this weekend at Centennial Park.

Events begin at 5 p.m. Saturday with live music to start at 5:30 with Benzley, the Dixieland Band and the Blandelles, culminating with a fireworks display at around 9:30 p.m. During the fireworks, patriotic music will be simulcast on KETR.

KETR will also be out at the event throughout the evening, broadcasting live and providing items for spectators.

In Greenville, the annual Buena Vista/Chapman neighborhood parade starts at 9 a.m. Saturday; with the 13th annual Park Street parade taking place at 10 a.m. Fireworks will follow a performance by Johnny Cooper Saturday night at 8:30 p.m. at the SportsPark.

Residents are reminded the use of fireworks is prohibited inside all incorporated Hunt County cities. Firework use, however, is permitted in the unincorporated areas.

The fourth annual Fourth Fest in Royse City will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday with a parade downtown. Festivities then move to Bulldog Stadium where live music will be provided and fireworks are set for 9:15 p.m.

A fireworks display in Rockwall begins at dusk on July 4 at Harry Myers Park. The show will be synchronized to music broadcast throughout the park.

The annual Celebrate America Parade in Paris winds through downtown at 10 a.m. Saturday. The Blue Skies Parachute Team will be landing in Noyes Stadium on the Paris Junior College campus at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The Paris Municipal Band will provide the patriotic beat with a musical program at 8 p.m., followed by the fireworks display after dark.
