Celeste ISD tax hike approved

By Scott Harvey

Celeste – Voters in Celeste have narrowly passed a 13 cent tax rate increase for the upcoming budget year.

The measure was approved by 52 percent of voters. 147 people were in favor of the item, while 135 were against.

The increase brings the district's maintenance and operations (M&O) property tax rate to $1.17 per $100 valuation. It's expected to generate an additional $366,000 in revenue.

Meanwhile, early voting continues through this week for the Royse City ISD's tax ratification election, set for Sept. 28. The district has proposed a 13 cent tax rate increase, which will cost the average homeowner about $14 a month more, if approved. More information is available at www.roysecityisde.com.

Additionally, the Campbell ISD has appointed a bond committee to receive public input regarding two Nov. 2 elections. The focus is $5 million in bonds for a new elementary school and a proposed increase in the property tax rate.
