Ceremony honors Deputy for heroism

By Scott Harvey

Cooper – Delta County Sheriff's Deputy Paul Robertson was honored over the weekend for his heroic efforts during last month's incident at the Commerce Wal-Mart.

Robertson was off duty when 29-year-old Artenio Rodriguez entered the store brandishing a weapon. In an attempt to subdue the gunman, Robertson was shot once and Rodriguez was killed. Rodriguez had arrived at the store following a chase which began in Greenville after he reportedly shot several rounds into the air.

During Saturday's ceremony in Cooper, Deputy Robertson was given the keys to the city and will soon receive a plaque recognizing him for his actions on March 7.
