Chamber offers chigger cures

It was another evening of brain storming on the part of Delta County Chamber of Commerce Directors Monday night.

“What in the world is Chiggerfest?” That inquiry spurred a barrage of possibilities.

For this year’s event, on Saturday, Oct. 17, the Chamber will again be hosting the annual coloring contest. Students in grades kindergarten through second will be given a Chigger to color, third grade through fifth will be asked to draw a Chigger, sixth through eighth graders are requested to write a story on “How the Chigger came to Delta County?” to be printed in the Cooper Review and High School art students will be teaming up to create and design a new Chiggerfest T-shirt theme.

The Board will be offering free kids activities throughout the day.

A sponsor for the Chiggerfest 5K/2 mile run is still being sought. Chamber Director Nikki Mullens reported on her progress with obtaining new vendors and the regulations for hosting wine vendors. She is working with Delta County Judge Jason Murray on the championship bull riding event to be that evening of Chiggerfest. BK Moody has been busy planning the musical entertainment lineup for Chiggerfest.

What are your favorite Chiggerfest memories? What would draw you back to the community? Tell us what you enjoyed about the event in the 20 plus year history. Send your thoughts to the Cooper Review at P.O. Box 430, Cooper, Texas 75432 or e-mail us at croller@cooperreview.com.

In other Chamber news, Chamber office manager Gracie Young has made good progress with her move to the front of the building with the assistance of Chamber members and the Delta County Sheriff’s office Inmate Work Crew. Chamber President Cheryl Cash informed the rental spaces in the building were filling back up with the vacancies of Dr. Macy Inmon and Farm Bureau.

It is just about time for the selection of new directors. Chamber President Cash said Director Denicia Hohenberger will be heading the committee. Chamber Director Dr. Torance Vandygriff presented his report on membership. There were several inquiries on cost of membership with business at $80 and individual at $35 per year. New members are always welcome. Contact any Director or Gracie Young at 903.395.4314. The official e-mail address is now: deltacountychamberofcommerce@yahoo.com.
