Change of venue requested in Hunt County jail lawsuit

By Brad Kellar

Hunt County – New developments have emerged in the lawsuit between Hunt County and the creators of its jail facility.

Attorneys for Frank W. Neal & Associates Incorporated have filed a change of venue request, due to extensive media coverage. They've also filed a general denial that their client was at fault concerning the problems which have surfaced with the facility. No hearings regarding the change of venue request were immediately scheduled.

Last month, the Hunt County Commissioners Court signed off on a $770,000 settlement with Burns Architecture Incorporated, the architects involved with the construction of the jail, although the suit remains pending against Frank W. Neal & Associates.

The County filed the suit against the two firms in January, accusing both of failing to adhere to warnings the structure was being built on unstable soil.
