Charges dropped in Bonham dog attack

By Scott Harvey

Bonham – Charges against a Fannin County man whose pit dogs attacked and mauled two people in 2008 have been dropped.

John Hardy Taylor reportedly had four pit bulls in the back of his truck when two of them jumped out and attacked 44-year-old Judy Pless and an 11-year-old girl who was riding her bike nearby. Both were flown to Dallas hospitals. The injuries were not life threatening.

Taylor was charged with 4 counts of attack by a dog. The defense argued the laws under which Hardy faced the four counts were vague and unconstitutional and Judge Laurie Blake agreed.

Fannin County District Attorney Richard Glaser says he will appeal the ruling. Glaser has also indicated that if the ruling is upheld, he will go to the state legislature to get a better law written that would keep such charges upheld in court.
