Cherry to serve more than two decades behind bars

GREENVILLE - A Greenville woman was sentenced to prison Tuesday for attempting to kill her newborn daughter in 2009.

Lola Danielle Cherry was sentenced to 24 years in prison. She had faced up to life behind bars.

Cherry was found guilty earlier this month following a two day trial. Prosecutors claim Cherry pushed a diaper wipe down her 12-week-old daughter’s throat because she did not want her growing up in an unstable household. The wipe had to be removed at a hospital.
