Chessher Starts Cooper Clean-up Crew

Carmen Chessher is leading an effort to help improve the curb appeal of the City of Cooper. The Cooper Clean-up Crew had its first meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017 on the front porch steps of Chessher and Associates real estate office on 621 West Dallas Avenue downtown Cooper, Texas.

The next meeting will be held at the gazebo on the Square in Cooper this Saturday, Feb. 18 at 11 a.m. Everyone is invited to attend.A group of about 21 citizens gathered to share thoughts on what needs to happen and how to go about with this process.

Giving insight and present among the crowd was Delta County Judge Jason Murray, Delta County Sheriff Ricky Smith and City of Cooper Mayor Scotty Stegall via phone (as he was attending another meeting).

Chessher has created a Cooper Clean-up Crew Facebook page to update volunteers along with e-mail contacts. In her original request Chessher suggested organizing a group of volunteers to work one day a month to help clean up Cooper.

Chessher presented a map of Cooper divided into four sections.

“I have been thinking about this for quite a while. It finally became the right time and something in me just said ‘let’s do it!’” said organizer Carmen Chessher, admitting she was new to this prospect.  She was recently award “Citizen of the Year” by the Delta County Chamber of Commerce.

It was decided the best path would be to go out and identify trouble spots, create liability releases and generate volunteer work schedules. Among the supplies needed would be garbage bags and gloves and possibly high visibility vests.
