The stepfather of a 3-year-old girl who died last week in Celeste has been arrested and charged with capital murder in connection with the child’s death, according to the Greenville Herald-Banner.

Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks released the following statement this afternoon concerning the death of Aliah Christine Walker, 3, of Celeste:

“The Hunt County Sheriff's Office has continued to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a three year old female in Celeste that occurred on December 30, 2014. We have learned from the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office that the preliminary cause of death was ruled a homicide.

Today, January 6, 2015, our investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Kaylon Laray Sephus for the Capital Murder of Aliah Walker. Sephus lived in the home with Aliah and her mother. Sephus has been taken into custody and was placed in the Hunt County Detention Center. Sephus was arraigned by Judge Wayne Money and bond was set at $1 million dollars."

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wed. at Faith Outreach Church in Greenville. The viewing has been scheduled from 6-8 p.m. today at Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home in Commerce, which is in charge of arrangements.
