Christmas parade lights up Delta County

The Delta County Chamber of Commerce's annual lighted parade boasted several award winning floats this year.

“It was perfect weather. We appreciate everyone who helped make it all possible,” said Kathy Houchins, Delta County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and Chairwoman of event. “Santa was able to ride on top of the Cooper Fire Truck and the Cooper High School Mighty Maroon Marching Band and the Delta County Sheriff’s deputies in the Humvee helped lead the way to the Square filled with people waiting and watching… I know the fire fighters were excited about this year’s ‘Star Spangled Hero Christmas’ theme.”

Grand Marshal was awarded to the American Legion Red Henderson Post 483 receiving $200. It was a 40 foot trailer flying the flags of the branches of military with Veterans riding in fine red, white and blue fashion. President’s Award went to the local Delta County 4-H for their unique float supporting the military and local heroes, receiving $100. Mayor’s Award was presented to David and Sharon Johnson for “Santa’s Rescue” as they dedicated this year’s float, “In memory of Jerry Wood,” Klondike Fire Chief (who recently passed away). The float included a flashing red light Chief Wood had just given the Johnsons for the float. They were given $100. Best Family Transportation, “Family Christmas” was won by the family of Misty Scott for their creativity with an ATV, receiving $50. Lone Star Garden Puller Association representative Lane Duncan on T-Rex won Most Lighted for this year’s parade. He was given $50.
