Commerce – The Commerce ISD on Monday approved an increase to the cost of school breakfast and lunch for the upcoming school year, as required by the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010.
The Act requires schools to provide the same level of support for students not eligible for free or reduced price meals as they provide for students who qualify for free or reduced price meals.
The five cent increase means breakfast prices will be $1.30 for all students, lunch prices will be $2.05 for elementary students and $2.30 for sixth through 12th graders.
The federal mandate means other schools will also be increasing meal costs. The Bonham ISD on Monday approved a five cent increase, making the new meal price for elementary schools $2.05 and $2.55 for secondary schools.
