CISD hears pay study

By Kevin Jefferies

Commerce – The Commerce ISD heard the results of a compensation study in regular session this week. The study compared salaries for all positions within the district with the regional and state market in districts of similar size.

Charlie Nitschmann, a Compensation Consultant with the Texas Association of School Boards, said the district overall was about 5% lower than the market.
The study suggests raises across the board, with teacher starting pay around $35,000. One area the district was far behind market was manual trades.

The total cost to the district to bring salaries closer to market value would be between three-hundred-forty and four-hundred thousand dollars.
