CISD to receive six new buses

By Scott Harvey

Commerce – The Commerce Independent School District anxiously awaits the arrival of a much needed addition to its bus fleet.

Beginning Tuesday, the District will receive two new school buses, both equipped with cameras and air conditioning, with four more buses to arrive by weeks end.

Approval of the lease purchase agreement was given during Monday's Board Meeting. After much deliberation during last month's meeting, the CISD decided to pursue the lease purchase agreement and get all six buses this year, instead of buying two buses each year over the next three years. Estimates show the lease purchase plan will save the District about $28,000.

The total for all six buses comes to $512,822. At an interest rate of 3.55%, the District will pay $176,954 for each of the next three years.

With the purchase, the CISD can now keep use a couple of buses specifically for backup purposes, a perk the District has not had in previous years.
