CISD seeking dress policy for elementary schools

By Scott Harvey

Commerce – The Commerce ISD is taking the next steps toward implementing at standardized dress code for the district's two elementary schools for the 2008/2009 school year. The School Board gave approval Tuesday night authorizing Superintendent Mike Roberts to form a committee to design a standard. The Board will address the proposed dress code for kindergarten through fifth graders at its February 18 meeting. Currently, students at Commerce Middle and High Schools must wear solid colored shirts that must be tucked in, with either khaki or blue pants and a belt.

Also Tuesday night during closed session the School Board awarded Superintendent Roberts a contract extension. He'll receive a one year extension on top of his current three-year term, keeping him as Superintendent through June, 2011.

The School Board also approved the creation of an executive director's position during closed session. Roberts may recommend personnel for those positions at the School Board's February 18 meeting.
