CISD seeks input in superintendent search

By Scott Harvey

Commerce – The Commerce School Board is seeking input from parents and the community on the selection of its next superintendent. Confidential responses will help form a profile and interview questions to be used in the hiring process.

Former superintendent Mike Roberts resigned from the position last month after serving at the post for a little over a year.

Since that time, the Board has hired superintendent search firm Arrow Educational Services. AES has been in existence for ten years, having assisted in 84 superintendent searches state-wide. Most recently, the Board also hired Larry Johnson as Interim Superintendent. Johnson most recently served as Superintendent of the Quinlan Independent School District.

Those wishing to provide input on the selection of the CISD's next superintendent can do so through the district website at www.commerceisd.org. Participants can respond either by mail, fax at 903 886-6025, or by returning forms to campus or district offices. Respondents may also directly respond online.

In a related story, the new A.C. Williams Elementary School in Commerce continues to stay on schedule, according to a recent report. The Commerce School Board Monday heard from Claycomb Associates and W.B. Kibler Construction Company regarding the progress of the project.

Crews are continuing to lay the foundation for the structure, as well as install all utility lines. Steel for the building will begin coming in next week and will take about three weeks to erect.

The new A.C. Williams Elementary School is scheduled for completion by fall 2009.
