Cities to consider second reading regarding K2 sales

By Scott Harvey

– The Cities of Commerce and Sulphur Springs look to pass a law Tuesday evening restricting the sale of the controversial product K2.

Both city councils last month passed first readings restricting sale of the product to anyone under the age of 21.

Commerce is also prohibiting the product's sale within 1,000 feet of protected areas such as schools, parks and churches; while Sulphur Springs is looking to create a 1,500 foot buffer.

Passage of tonight's agenda items, calling for the approval a second reading on the ordinance, would make the law official.

More than a handful of stores in both cities are said to sell the product which, when smoked, is said to give a marijuana like-high.

The product has already been outlawed in nine states, and is expected to be addressed by the Texas legislature when it convenes next year.
