Citizens warned against tampering with water service

By Scott Harvey

Commerce – City of Commerce officials are warning citizens against tampering with water service, or they will press charges.

The item was addressed during Tuesday's council meeting while discussing the recently installed radio-read water meters by Noresco. The new, more accurate meters were installed to help prevent revenue loss.

Officials have found some customers have tampered with the meters, attempting to steal water. Director of Administrative Services Marc Clayton says the new meters will still allow the city to go back and determine what was stolen, and residents will be billed the full amount.
