City awards bid in Hwy 11 project

By Scott Harvey

Commerce – The City of Commerce has awarded a bid of nearly $465,000 for the relocation of water and sewer lines along Highway 11.

12 total bids were received for the project, with W.R. Hodgson, out of Celeste, coming in as the low bidder.

The city is still working to obtain private property easements to relocate the utility lines to, which are currently located under state right-of-way.

The current locations of those lines are in conflict with plans by the Texas Department of Transportation to rebuild the intersection of SH 11 and Loop 178 this fall. Therefore, TxDot has mandated the city remove the lines from the right-of-way, the cost of which Commerce must pay.
