City could save money on major transportation project

GREENVILLE  - Bids revealed Tuesday indicate it may cost a lot less than first thought to build Monty Stratton Parkway, which will connect Interstate 30 to Greenville high school and the PJC campus.

Ten companies submitted bids for the project, with the lowest bid of $1.63 million coming from Lacy Construction of Dallas for a nine month job.

City staff will review the documents and present to the council for consideration for the awarding of a bid.

In August 2010 council voted to sell bonds worth roughly $2.8 million to pay for the roadway, which will be two concrete lanes with a raised median and open ditch on both sides.
