Bids for Water Treatment Plant improvements and filter rehabilitation construction were received in the City Council meeting April 14. They were presented by Mike Tibbets of Hayter Engineering. The lower bid of $56,100 from S4 Water Sales & Services, LLC was accepted.
Tibbets also presented the bids for the utility relocation that the city must have done for the SH 24 widening. The lower bid of $104,000 from 7-H Construction, Inc. was approved. Approximately 55 to 60% of the cost of the relocation will be reimbursed by TxDOT.
Mayor Scotty Stegall proclaimed that April 1, 2014 is the day of recognition for local volunteers to acknowledge their many hours of service to the city and community.
A National Safe Digging Proclamation was also read that recognizes the benefit of the establishment of the 811 number to call before digging. The 811 system was approved in 2005 by the Federal Communication Commission.
City Attorney Jay Garrett administered the Oath of Elected Officials to returning City Council Members, Joann Preas and Willie “Bear” Willis. David Phillips, who was not able to attend the meeting, will receive the oath at a later date.
Approval was given to work with the Economic Development Corporation to offer tax abatements to prospective new businesses that are considering relocation within the city.
The next Cooper City Council meeting will be on May 12, 2014 at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
