City to discuss renaming road to honor former mayor

By Brad Kellar

Greenville – A Greenville thoroughfare is again facing a name change.

The Greenville City Council is scheduled Tuesday to take another stab at renaming Dent Road as Roy Warren Parkway, to honor the former mayor and civic leader. A public hearing is scheduled prior to the vote, which will take place during the Council's regular session, starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Municipal Building, 2821 Washington Street.

In March, current Greenville Mayor Tom Oliver sought to rename the road but the vote was postponed, as the Council decided there was a need for a local street/facilities policy.

Roy Warren served as mayor from 1964 until 1968. He was a graduate of Greenville High School and East Texas State University and a bomber pilot during World War II. He died in 2006.
